Ich hatte angefangen zu beschreiben, wie es bei uns in Wales war und wie es jetzt ist, aber ich habe einfach zu viel geschrieben und ohne Korrektur geht auch nicht. Vor ich Eure Haaren zu rollen bringe (= noch schlimmer als Bergen ) lass ich mal... Ich freue mich aber auf Eure Erinnerungen und lokale Bräuche. Es gibt zwei Gruppen von Menschen die Schuhe selbe ausziehen: 1. die die Sauberkeit und Hygiene über alles hoch halten 2. Menschen aus Länder wie Japan, Indonesien, Nahosten, usw. wo es zu Kultur gehört. Bei 1. denke ich immer an der Spruch, "Sauberkeit wird wichtiger, wenn Göttlichkeit unwahrscheinlich ist." Aber sie haben mich in ihre Privatsphäre eingeladen und als Britte bin ich (meistens) höfflich, auch wenn ich ein Loch im Strumpf habe... Natürlich passe ich an! Und ich nehme meistens Socken mit, denn ich möchte meine Füße nicht in ihre Gästepantoffeln stecken! Bei 2. ist eindeutlich. Ich respektiere sie und ihre Kultur. Ich informiere mich auch vorher über ihre Gewöhnheiten und Bräuche und versuche Fauxpas womöglich zu vermeiden. Hat vor allem mit Respekt zu tun und gehört einfach dazu. Manieren -- gute und schlechte -- sind vom Land zu Land, Kultur zu Kultur sehr unterschiedlich, aber egal wie oder was sie sind, sie bewirken alle das selber. WikiHow kann es besser als ich formulieren: "Gute Manieren, oder sich auf eine Art und Weise zu verhalten, die sozial akzeptabel und respektvoll ist, zeigt Respekt, Umsicht und Rücksichtnahme auf andere. Exzellente Manieren können dazu beitragen, dass du bessere Beziehungen zu den Leuten pflegst, die du kennst und zu denen, die du treffen wirst." Ich habe Dich geantwortet ohne andere Beiträge zu lesen... Nun mal sehen was so gesagt wird! :)

Thanks for the interesting article, Angeli, but it is way too long and complicated to respond on the hoof. (I have a tight time schedule this next 10 days). Please excuse my brief and erratic participation. I was immediately attracted by this: "These regimes had long been rotten at their core. It brought the present situation of millions of unemployed people (especially the young) and homeless across Europe, the Harz IV and €400 mini-job workers in Germany and hard-pressed social benefit claimants and zero hours contracts in the UK and the ever-growing increase between the rich and poor to mind. The rise in Euro-scepticism as well as fascism could well be the response of these millions to what they regard as a rotten regime. A similar process appears to be under way in the USA with the Republicans being voted for by the very people their policies will harm the most. Dictatorships are uncomfortably closer than we care to admit, not least because they are (to some extent at least) "all in the mind". Which is why the dark arts of spin and propaganda now make Machiavelli and Goebbels look like rank amateurs. The world is further complicated by globalisation and the power of the corporations vs the state. The simple equation people : government, has thus been compromised. And not just through third-party intervention and their associated political systems. What interests me, is when do the losers decided "enough is enough"?

Hi Everyone! This is my first adventure into the Seniorentreff. I find it all a little intimidating and very confusing, so please excuse me if I am in the wrong place, saying the wrong thing! I am an English native speaker. I never learned German at school or formally, so it is a little rough and ready. But my husband and his family are all German, so I am fluent in "Nannadeutsch" and most people understand me when I talk. Written German is another matter. Mann bzw. Frau schämmt sich! Since 1977 I have lived in Berlin, Wiesbaden, Vaterstetten nr. Munich and Flensburg, where I now live. My real home is North Wales, which is why I also speak Welsh. If anyone has any questions concerning their English, please feel free to ask me. I taught English as a foreign language, so I should be able to answer you. I also will correct you, BUT ONLY IF YOU REQUEST ME TO. I do not want to turn any conversation into an English lesson or embarrass individuals! I just thought I would mention that from the beginning.
