thats´s good news that you can use a few more fingers.Fryday late afternonn, we had a heavy downpour, but the nature would need some more rain. Even tough it isn`t so hot anymore it is still extremely humid.
I´m still looking forward to your report about Campus Galli. I was pleased that you liked it.

During the last three weeks I had quite a lot to do with voluntary work. And in between I had quite a few appointments at several medical specialists. I´m still waiting for a few results and I´m simply more concerned about that.
It would realy be a pity. I will do my best but in between maybe some other things are more important.
In this sense I wish all a nice Sunday and a good week.

I totally agree with you: The chat is not really a good fun. It's not like corresponding with a friend whom you know well, which opens a lot of items to talk about. And you always have to remember, who the person is, you are corresponding with and what you should already know about him/her. It is only useless chattering. The only positive thing: it is training to read and understand quickly what two or three people write - all at the same time - and to answer as quickly. It makes you recall all your vocabulary as prompt as possible. Apart from that it's all nonsense.
But Magret: you can also train your vokabulary here in this thread. Here you have more time to think all over and choose the right words.
I hope you will stick to it and I wish youa very fine Sunday!

Hallo . . I'm sorry that you consider the English chat "no fun" and "nonsense". However, tonight, you participated throughout and appeared to be interested in the conversation. Frosch, Dancelady and I established the chat years ago, with the understanding that it should primarily serve practicing language skills. For a while, I would correct grammatical errors for the purpose of learning/teaching since I am speaking English every day for 50+ years. I haven't done that lately. I am assuming that the originator of this Subforum had somewhat the same purpose in mind.

then I forgot this forum. For some time I entered the English chat-room.
First I also had problems to follow the conversation. When I had written an answer the others had already changed the theme. But then I just wrote as I thought without thinking about every English word. And then it really worked. The other participants understood what I meant - even if the words were not correct. I liked the two hours on Sunday. Only the time was not suitable for me because I like watching TV at 8 o`clock p. m.
Some information about me: I live in the northern part of Germany, I am married and have got two children. My daughter and her family live next to us and so I can enjoy out little grand-son very often. He is 2 years old and at the moment he tries who is the boss...

I've been following this thread ever since I joined this forum and since my first contribution here to the English section, which shows that, in principle, I'd also be interested in contributing to an exchange of ideas if I only knew what to talk about. So far I haven't written anything because I didn't really know what to write about or to comment on. I may be wrong but it seems to me that this thread lacks a real topic. I, for one, need a reason to write because for me it's not so important to write in English just for the sake of using the language. I do not need to practise any vocabulary or to prevent my English from getting rusty. What I am looking for is an exchange of views on an interesting subject either in English or in German. The language doesn't matter. Yet I'm not complaining. I am fully aware of how difficult it is to find something interesting both in German and in English.
I do agree with all those, though, who wrote that chatting was not their cup of tea. I don't like it either and the main reason for this is the time aspect. Unfortunately, I usually have a tight schedule each day. So if there's one thing I don't need, its another fixed date. Apart from that, as the name says, chatting is bound to be somewhat superficial. Speed beats content. Again, I don't blame anyone but it just doesn't feel right for me.
But if we managed to find a subject in this or another thread that might be of general interest and which we could talk about consecutively here, you could count on me.

I must agree: on Sunday evening it was really nice in the chat. But sometimes - you must agree - it is awfully boring. Well, let's stick to it...
Concerning our observation Sunday morning we could read it on Monday in our newspaper: There were two ladies swimming early in the morning just like us. One of them (79 years old) only stayed in the flat water and her friend swum far to the other end of the lake. When she returned to the bank she found her friend lying in the water unconsiously. With the help of other people she pulled her out of the water and called the lifeguard. But they were not able to resuscitate her. Then the police arrived and called the criminal investigators. That was the situation, when we arrived at 7 a.m. We watched all these activities from far swimming in the lake. It bothered me all day long and now I know, it was a lady whom we met every day in the mornings. Since, we haven't been swimming again - it was too cruel. But life must go on: Next Saturday my husband will be 74 and I have to prepare everything for our guests. Will the weather be sunny or not? Have the party on the terrasse or inside? We'll see.

Concerning to all your interests - just have a look at the offered forums on the left side of this page. I am sure, you would find some topics that you will like to interfere. I avoid forums where they are discussing quite agressively - but there is a great deal left that are interesting or just fun.
