English Purpose of this subforum
Good evening to everybody, you wrote, one never is too old to learn something. But, it gets more difficult if you are older I know it because I go to school once a week for learning English and french. No, not for learning. Only just for fun. But ,if I can get some new words in my head, I am very satisfied. It was not so easy to find this group. We only speak together.Indeed, new words I write down. If we will see a film or a trial
the teacher give us the vocabulary before we see the film. And afterwards we speak about it. All in all ,everybody of us have much fun.
My french course is very boring and I think I will stop it. I have more fun in the french group of this forum. Yes, it needs endless till I have prepared a text. Therefore I am not so activ in the french forum.
Have all a nice evening Regina

Hello, Elizabeth,
Yes, it is true, one is never too old to learn. The truth is I am probably too lazy.
By the way, I enjoy digi’s English Second Language Podcast link. It is easy listening to different lessons.

Thank you for the link but …………. I have no podcast because I did not need one until now.

Below you will find a video from Jeff Dunham in English. The English text is, at least for me, easy to understand.
If you do not exactly understand the English text you will find subtitles, what is very useful.
Kirk, this kind of humor is completely different to your video, but I know for certain, you will have to laugh.
I love ventriloquists!

Hello Regina,
it seems as if we meet at the same places - once writing English
and the other time writing French! That`s nice. Did you meanwhile
stop going to your French conversation course? As I always
preferred the English language it takes much time for me, too,
to write French.
Just for making conversation: How did you spend the weekend?
In the northern area it was raining cats and dogs yesterday!
So we stayed at home. I could read further the book "Das geheime
Spiel" by Kate Morton. It`s the second book I read from the
same author. But I don`t like it as much as the first one. Indeed
I am a little disappointed. I am a real "Leseratte". How about
you? Do you also read many books? And if so which authors do
you prefer?
Have a nice week!

Hi Julchen,
Thanks for your encouragement! Yesterday I was in the English
spoken chat again. At the beginning I told everybody that
I might have some difficulties with writing. In fact they
all were very helpful and it wasn`t as hard for me as I had
thought!
Did I write that I was in the USA once - when I was young and
pretty?? I spent about 6 weeks in a small town called Homewood
near Chicago. Two years before I had met an American boy who
played trombone in a choir. They travelled through Germany
and rehearsed in different countries. Ron and I fell in love
and wrote love letters to each other for 2 years. Then he
came to see me in Germany and one year later I met him again
in the US. Unfortunately in the meantime he had fallen in love
with an American girl which he told me when I came to see him.
You can imagine how sad and disappointed I was! So this
romance ended with a lot of tears...
Maybe some of you have had similar experiences?!
Have a nice week.

Hi,and good evening Praline. Thankyou for writing to me. I stopped the french-course because it was more than boring. And I looked for another course. There are enough in Berlin. But the good one are too far away. With a car no problem, but to find a parking place is nearly impossible. Besides, during the summer time I have not too much time for going to school. I am very often on the golf-course. I am a bad player ,I do it only for fun. And I go only 9 holes, 18 are too strenuously for me. Mostly, before I go to the golf-course, I have to go with my little dog.She is very lively. Its a Parson Russell Terrier. A reaaly devil.
Yes, I am a bookworm. I can't live without reading. Till later, have a nice evening

Hello again - Regina,
thank you for your answer. It seems as if nobody likes
to write in English any more.
I think you are a sportive lady - going to the
golf-court and walking with your little dog! We don`t
have a pet. But for a week we have to care for two budgies
of my daughter. Last Wednesday she and her boy-friend
left for the Greek island Kos. It seems as if the
birds are missing my daughter`s friend who always pays
a lot of attention to them. They are very quiet.
What kind of books are you reading? I do like to read
thrillers or stories treating of families in foreign
countries or continents - for example Australia. I like
to read books written by Patricia Shaw.
Have a nice Sunday!

Hi, Praline, you are right, nobody will write to us. But for me it's a very good opportunity to practice my English. I believe we have the same taste with our books.I like it to read since I was a little girl. But now, books are got so expensive that I take them from a library .For the bestsellers I had to pay 2,50 Euro, and only 2 weeks time to read them. But sometimes I also buy books about ebay.Last year I brought about more than 400 hundred books to my library. We sold our house and now we have not enough place for so many books. But, it is unbelievable I have plenty of books again.
What about your french? I would like to write in french too. But the other one are too good. They have subjects which I can read, but I can't write and answer because I don't find the right words. I have too much forgotten. OK now, have a nice week Regina

Hi Regina,
it was nice to read from you. You are right it is very expensive
to buy books. Fortunately a friend of mine has the same taste as I have. So we can exchange all the books we buy. Mostly I look
at Amazon where I always find new books we don`t know yet. Then
I make a list and for anniversaries or for Christmas we want the
books as presents. If we share the books - it`s only half the
price!
As to my French - at the moment they talk about French songs
there in which I am not very interested. So I didn`t write
anything during the last days. And I also think that the others
are much better than I am.
I just return from the rehearsal of our choir. For many years
I have song as a soprano in a church choir. We always have a
lot of fun and I always look forward to Monday evening.
If it is not too curious: Why did you sell your house? Was it
too large for you and did you move into an apartment?
We also live in a house and in a fortnight some gardeners will
start to change the paving of our terrace and we also want
to replace all of the plants which have become much too big
during the last years. That will be a lot of work!
With kind regards,
Dörte

Hi, Dörte, you ask me ,why we have sold our house. The garden and the house were really too big. Now,we live in a house again. It's a 3 family-house. We bought it together with a good friend (we know us more than 40 years)My husband and I,we live at the ground-floor and around the house we have a little garden. At the first floor live our friends. And ,at the 3. one ,are nice and quiet tenants. And the best of all, for each of us is enough place for our cars.We have together 7 cars. Everybody is satisfied.
I believe, your french is better than my french. I need a long of time to write. If you want,we can write us from time to time in french. But I think,we should do it in PN. What do you think aboutit?
Oh,it gets raining cats and dogs. Not so good for my husnand,he is on the way with Lilly our little dog. For Lilly, it isn't impottant. She likes rain . She only hate if it is too hot. Ok let's finish for today till next time Regina
