English Purpose of this subforum
Purpose of this subforum
geschrieben von ehemaliges Mitglied
I have been asked by former members of Seniorenportal.de to open a new discussion section for usage of the English language. On Seniorenportal.de such a section existed for teaching purposes. Initially I was not sure how this should be integrated into the Seniorentreff. I now have found the following solution:
I created a new main section: Foreign languages.
Subsections for other languages than English will be opened on demand. It might well be that in a few weeks, we might have sections for French, Spanish, Esperanto and Latin as well. Other sections might be opened when there is a need for it.
I will not interfere with the format. Members of the Seniorentreff are free to use these sections for teaching/learning purposes or for integrating native speakers into normal discussion threads.
At least initially, postings in the foreign language section are not included under "Neueste Beiträge" similar to the word games (Wortspiele) which are also excluded due to the high frequency of postings. This status, however, is changeable and depends on how the section develops (see note added below).
The section will be linked in the navigation on the left side under "Forum" > "Fremdsprachen". Furthermore the different languages (there will be more than English soon) will be linked by the toolbar of the Seniorentreff.
Best regards, Karl (webmaster)
Edit: New entries will be listet under "Neue Beiträge". When their number increases a separate novelty list for foreign languages will be created.

Thank you so much, Karl!

1. Esperanto bei Wikipedia
2. Deutscher Esperanto Bund
3. Esperanto-Land

Re: Purpose of this subforum
Thanks, Karl,
sounds like a great idea to me. Nothing makes learning another language easier than actually using it in
conversation.
Since work keeps me away from the English speaking chat on sundays (mostly, anyway)..this is neat.
So, guys, what shall we talk about?

Hi julchentx,
in principle, I believe that we are free to discuss anything we want.
Discussions in English will be a novel experience for some of us. So there should also be threads for beginners, who are primarily interested in practising the language.
On the other hand, having an English subsection offers the possibility to invite people to participate in our discussions, who otherwise would not have joined us. This could mean new input to what sometimes surely will be old topics.
I am looking forward to your first English speaking thread here,
regards, Karl

@ Hi Karl,
Thank you so much for opening a new main section: Foreign languages.
I really hope there will be a lot of members who want to support this section.
The best way to improve the English language is by doing exercises too.
Best regards, Elizabeth

I would like to participate in this English forum. But unfortunately is my English not as good as it could be. I read easy written books, can have easy conversations. Last year I went to an English-Course. But once a week isn't enough for getting better. However, I can all read what you right. And if possible I'll answer you. Have all a nice week-end Regina

Unfortunately I have just now read your message. Sorry!
It’s nice to have you here too. Your English is very well and understandable; therefore we can have conversation as often as you want.

Learning English once a week for reaching a higher standard or for making progress in the conversation, is much better than nothing, I think.
Practice makes perfect.
Wish you a nice day

Hallo, Elisabeth, Thank you so much for your nice words. I think it helps me to write English from time to time.Besides, it's funny to read all your commentary. And indeed, very interesting.
Here are plenty of nice people just like in my Englsh class. The people in this course are together more than 20 years. Very unusoal, isn't it? But it's only a conversations course. We speak about all subjects actuelly And this is the reason why I can't write not so good. OK , greetings to all of you have a nice evening Regina

Hi guys,
I think your command of the english language is very good.
No need to hide. Hold your heads up high and proud and let's talk.
Got a problem? Need a recipe? Want to share your love for your family, or your pets or who - or
what ever? Can't get your husband to close the toothpaste tube?
Got really mad at the butcher because he ruined a cut? Just want to get rid of some soul-baggage?
Found a to-die-for blouse for next to nothing in a sale? Been to a great Restaurant? Plan a vacation?
It does not matter. Share it with us!
Language does not matter. When it comes down to the nitty-gritty we are all
people with pretty much the same loves and likes and dislikes and hopes and dreams - no matter where
we live.
Guess what? We all use the bathroom in pretty much the same way that everybody else does, also.
So let's jump to it and do not be afraid of making mistakes. Mistakes are the purest of aspects
of humanity, for we all make them, and nobody is perfect.
