Greetings dear skys

to  be truthful my health is still an issue. Butt lets talk about interesting things.
For instance your idea about the  Himalaya

I copied following words out of it....

Unprecedented and largely irreversible changes to the Hindu Kush Himalayan cryosphere, driven by global temperature rises, threaten two billion people and are accelerating species extinction.

Vulnerable mountain communities are already experiencing major adverse impacts: loss and damage to lives, property, heritage, infrastructure
Floods and landslides are projected to increase

We must act now to protect this region and its people."
Prof. Saleem ul Huq
Director of the International Centre for Climate Change and Development, Bang

words above out of the article................

That all is a small part of the world, but very serious loss for lots of people.
It does good to talk to someone who has more widely spread interest. Thank you !
At the age of 81 now I feel it does not matter very much to MY life. But it matters a lot, a great lot to the earth we live in.

I start an other insert above for all
Take care dear skys

 Artificial Intelligence

My Husband Emil and his Son Marcel were talking yesterday about  artificial intelligence.

I was just listenig and not understanding a lot.
It sounded though as if they saw a danger to the existence of the world in the long run.
Has anybody here thought or heard about it?

Dear Yoli,

(health is interesting, but i respect your desire)

the webside about the Himalaya was interesting and easy to read, yes.
I had asked once before: do you read the other German postings in this forum too or none of them ?

Artificial intelligence - yes, boon or bane ?
It is a very powerful tool. I like to compare it with an axe: you can murder or rescue somebody with it.
Simply speaking the artificial intelligence is the processing of a huge amount of data to receive results which are usually only possible by the natural human brain power.
pictures, sounds, movements, a lot of things are in the end only a package of a huge number of data which have to be managed in a (hopefully) sensible way. - Will not be the easiest task for humans…

A danger for the existence of the world - well, for the humans and the actual wonderful living creatures and nature certainly but not really for the world and the nature in principle.
Everything what could trigger or be used in a war is a danger with the risk of escalation. The artificial intelligence is one possibility, but the climate change is another one, too. and with a little bit philosophy much more things like the well-known stroke of a wing of a butterfly have the potential for a big influence…;-)

How do you think about such things ?

*today probably with a lot of mistakes (corrections are welcome :-)

Best wishes

Hello, dear Yoli,

This Sunday morning is a wonderful time for taking a walk. It isn´t too hot,  as the sun is still rising to its vertical position the shadows are long, the stops in the shade agreeable. So I persuaded my wife to accompany me on a tour around the nearby lake, accepting me to push her in the wheelchair..  How wonderful.

When we had almost completed  our round I remembered I had read a notice on a little poster that today, Sunday, July 9th, there was area flea market from 10am to 3pm. So we extended our walk and went to have a glimpse of what was going on there.. When we moved into our home almost fifty years ago, there were only fields where now there is a complete settlement with homes for people  that could be our children. So most of the articles offered at today´s flea market were things that once were loved by them as toys and even their children now had grown too old to enjoy.

At the vicary we found an invitation to come in and have a good cup of coffee and a  piece of cake. We both had a delicious piece of home made"black forest cherry tart".
Moreover we found nice people for a good chat.

Hi Udo
Thank you for telling us what lovely day you spent with your wife. You are lucky to have each other.  I am sure you have had a great life together.
So many years already!
I am feed up at the moment with my health. Quite a while now I suffer with a pain in the Atlas area. That is the vertebrae that carry the head along with others.
I get tired because of the constant pain. I have been to tons of doctors in the last year and a half.  Then I have been to various therapies as well, spending quite a lot of money. Nothing helped.
Now I will have a cortisone infiltration, but sadly I have to wait until the middle of August.
Now I emptied my head a little I feel better.
Take care all of you. I write when I feel like it… honestly.

Hi again from far away in Cornwall.....

Yesterday was a day of great interest in GB: King Charles and Queen Camilla visited
the seaside town in which I live. But have a guess: I did not go into town to meet them...
Such is life

Hi everybody,

@yoli
hm, usually it is not "necessary" to withstand pain as good medicines say.
have you already heard of pain therapists ? often they are only well-known in the palliative medicine but may be one could help in your situation, too - important that a brain don't get used to feel pain - and apart of the fact, that most important is of course to find the reason for an appropriate treatment.
wish you good luck and soon less pain !

nice picture @Lerge ;)

Well, best not to suffer from pain at any time. Usually pains indicate that something is wrong with the body, that it needs help. Our daughter told us this morning that she had headaches, probably because she didn´t want to accompany us on our Sunday morning trip into the countryside. She prefers going for a walk to using the car. Public transport is O.K., buses, trains, O.K. but private cars, no. She really does all she can to contribute to efforts to save the climate.

A month ago she went to Spain using trains and buses instead of flying. She was so happy that she really succeeded reaching Valencia and Denia. However travelling took her much longer. Anyway she was not interested in getting a sun tan or burn on the beach or swimming in the Mediterranean. She was happy to be able to order a meal or a cup to coffee using the Spanish she had studied for months before planning  the trip.in detail.

What do you think about this way of travelling?

Hello jacaré4/Udo and everybody,

respect for your daughter and thank you for sharing :)
She seems to be a wonderful responsible, good informed and thoughtful person, taking over responsibility which is so necessary these days. A very good decision! Concerning the CO2 it makes a difference, yes.
You have to pay a price for everything - and here I don't mean only the money for some luxury goods but e.g. health in dependence of the climate conditions, the availability of water and functioning ecosystems.

By the way, the best trip was for me the one with traveling by bicycle. All the time you are really close to all the new impressions, new people, new experiences. I would have liked to cycle further and further…
Of course this way to travel (train, bicycle, etc.) takes more time - but that can be a chance to make very interesting and wonderful experiences.

Already a few weeks ago i saw a short video where the Spanish inhabitants told, the drought and heat are horrible, they have problems with water, agriculture, forest fires, health - but the tourists come and they only say "so much sun and so warm, how beautiful !". - They were head-shaking about such an ignorance of all the problems.
apart of the fact, that a suntan is not funny for the skin, it is an attempt of protection - I think your open-minded daughter will enjoy very much using her Spanish and speaking with the people. I'll wish her all the best !

In many towns the local public transport is so well developed that it is really in most or even all cases no problem to use it instead of a private car. Of course there is still a high potential in many regions to develop more for the cycling infrastructure and more for park & ride, car-sharing and the local public transport, too.
Often the problem is not the availability of something but the flexibility of thinking by the people and their demands and attitude what makes them content or discontent.
Concerned by the daily news I really hope your daughter can infect other people, too :)

Take care !
